Fixture Plates – Utility aspect

Any modern CMM just cannot do without a Fixture Plate. A basic fixture usually consists of a flat plat which has a wide variety of clamps and locators in order to hold and locate the part. The Fixture Plates are normally, much heavier than the plate jigs. This is done with an intention to increase their resistance against the additional cutting force.

Normally, a Fixture Plate is used either as a base for the work piece fixture or as a secondary base for an existing fixture.

The basic function of a Fixture Plate is to provide a staging area for building up part fixtures. A large sized plate facilitates the fixture of multiple parts. This helps in reducing the machine down time for loading and unloading. Generally, Fixture Plates which supports higher part densities and faster part change-outputs per cycle are preferred. This helps in saving a considerable amount of time and effort.
